Cinderella danced its way past $300 million at the global box officeafter opening in a number of key foreign markets.The Disney live-action remake of the animated classic topped overseas charts, earning $38.7 million after debuting in Spain, the United Kingdom Brazil, France and Australia. The rags-to-riches story of a woman who captures a princes heart while losing her shoe is also the studios second highest-grossing live-action release in China, having made $65.1 million in the Peoples Republic. Globally, its total stands at a regal $336.2 million.
Kingsman The Secret Service has passed the $300 million mark globally after earning $25 million at the foreign box office. The tongue-in-cheek spy adventure got a lift from debuting to more than $20 million in China.
The Divergent Series Insurgent continued to improve upon its predecessors overseas haul picking up $29.9 million in its second week of release. The strength of the dollar is making comparisons with Divergent difficult to calculate but Lionsgate the studio behind “Insurgent,” reports that the second chapter in the series is trumping the prior film in a number of key markets. In France, Insurgent is outpacing Divergent by 40%, and it’s up 25% in the United Kingdom, 76% in Brazil and 29% in Mexico.
Insurgent has made $180.1 million worldwide and is on track to eclipse the $288.7 million that Divergent pulled in globally, even though domestic results have been weaker than expected.
The weekends top domestic release Home, had to settle for fourth place on foreign charts. The animated film made $24 million in 64 territories to bring its global total to $102.2 million.
Focus rounded out the top five, picking up $8.2 million from 62 territories. Will Smiths heist romance has earned $134.3 million worldwide since opening in February.
